​CONTEST RULES

THERE IS NO PENALTY FOR TIME UNLESS IT IS ABUSED.  GENERALLY EACH ROUND SHOULD BE APPROX. 5 MIN

FIDDLERS

  • ALL DIVISIONS MUST PLAY A HOEDOWN, WALTZ, AND TUNE OF CHOICE IN THAT ORDER
  • CONTESTANTS MUST PLAY DIFFERENT TUNES EACH ROUND.  NO TUNES MAY BE REPEATED
  • LIMITED TO FOUR (4) ACCOMANISTS, BUT MAY NOT HAVE MORE THAN THREE (3) GUITAR PLAYERS  .   GROUPS OF FOUR (4) OR MORE MAY NOT APPEAR TWICE IN THE SAME DIVISION.  (NO CROSS ENTERING UNDER 2 DIFFERENT NAMES.)
  • ACCOMPANISTS ARE JUDGED BY THE NUMBER OF TIMES ON STAGE.
  • IN CASE OF A TIE, THOSE INVOLVED WILL PLAY ONE ADDITIONAL TUNE OF THEIR CHOICE.
  • IT IS THE CONTESTANT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE READY TO PLAY WHEN CALLED.  THOSE NOT READY WILL BE SCRATCHED FROM THAT DIVISION WITHOUT REFUND OF ENTRY FEE           

  • TWIN FIDDLING
  • TOONE
  • PARTICPANTS WILL PLAY TWO TUNES, ONE FAST AND ONE SLOW IN ANY ORDER.
  • ONE CONTESTANT WILL PLAY THE MELODY AND THE OTHER CONTESTANT WILL PLAY A NOTE FOR NOTE HARMONY, WITH THE MELODY AND HARMONY MOVING TOGETHER  
  • BOTH CONTESTANTS MUST PLAY THROUGHOUT THE PERFORMANCE, NO SOLOS.
  • CONTESTANTS WILL NOT TRADE THE MELODY BACK AND FORTH .  COUNTER MELODIES AND UNISON NOTES (FOR MORE THAN 1 OR 2 NOTES )  SHOULD NOT BE USED.
  • PLAYING SHOULD BE DANCEABLE AND HAVE AN EVEN TEMPO.  BOTH TONE QUALITY AND INTONATION WILL BE CONSIDERED IN THIS DIVISION.
  • THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE ROUND IN THIS DIVISION.  
  • ​IN THE CASE OF A TIE THE CONTESTANTS WILL PLAY ONE ADDITIONAL TUNE FAST OR SLOW THEIR CHOICE.

  •                                                            PICKERS

  • THE CONTESTANT MAY COMPETE WITH ONLY ONE INTRUMENT
  • EACH CONTESTANT MUST PLAY TWO FIDDLE-STYLE TUNES.  A FAST TUNE AND A SLOW TUNE IN BOTH ROUNDS.
  • IN EACH ROUND THERE WILL BE A THREE MINUTE TIME LIMIT
  • CONTESTANTS MAY PLAY WITH OR WITH OUT ACCOMPANIMENT.  NOT MORE THAN THREE ACCOMPANISTS MAY BE USED.  ACCOMPANISTS MAY NOT PLAY THE MELODY OF THE TUNE.
  • IN THE EVENT OF A TIE EACH CONTESTANT WILL PLAY ONE TUNE OF HIS/HER SELECTION THAT HE/SHE HAS NOT PLAYED IN ANY PREVIOUS PICKING ROUND.


  •         THE DECISION OF THE JUDGE IS FINAL
